Today’s topic is using other writers’ quotes and metaphors for inspiration. Have you ever tried to write about something you’d never felt or tried yourself? It’s difficult! One thing that might help is trying to learn from others’ experiences so that you have a better idea of how to portray that experience.
One thing that works for me is using poetry, quotes, metaphors, etc from other writers. Reading their thoughts and emotions about a topic helps me understand it better.
For example, if you’d never been in love, these quotes would help you get a better idea of how it might feel:
“I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.” (John Green)
“You can love someone so much…But you can never love people as much as you can miss them.” (John Green)
Give this a try the next time you’re stuck!
